Checklist for Applying to Graduate School

The process of applying to graduate school can seem overwhelming; for some, however, it may help to break down the process in smaller parts and tackle each step individually.  If you're thinking about applying, review our example timeline (for fall admission).

Gather Application Materials

Review your preferred program(s) and the corresponding application requirementspolicies, and deadlines. Begin working on the necessary documents, such as resumes, CVs, and statements of purpose. If necessary, take the GRE or GMAT, and contact your references for your letters of recommendation.

Apply

Submit your application(s) and all required application materials for admission and funding opportunities, if available. Ensure you submit all required materials by your program's specific deadlines found on their dedicated program page.

Receive Your Decision

If admitted, begin reviewing external funding opportunities to support you as you pursue your education.

Celebrate

Congratulate yourself! You are officially a graduate student. Continue looking for awards, internships, scholarships, and grants to help fund your studies and participate in conferences and other academic competitions and workshops to enhance your professional development and your resume!

If you require accommodations due to a disability in order to participate, please contact 512.245.3451 or ods@txstate.edu at least 72 hours in advance of the event.
