Texas State Certificates
The Graduate College offers the following graduate-level Texas State certificate programs. In order to be eligible, you must hold a bachelor's degree. Because you will not be pursuing a master's or doctoral degree, your certificate course work is considered post-graduate/post-baccalaureate. For information regarding certificate deadlines, advisor contact information, and admission requirements, please select a program below.
Certificate Course Work
You must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in order to receive a certificate of completion for the program. A final course grade of "C" or higher is required for any graduate course that may be applied towards a graduate certificate at Texas State. All certificate course work must be completed within four years of initial enrollment.
If you apply and are admitted to a degree program, you can petition up to six hours of your certificate course work to count toward your degree as long as the course work is graduate-level and completed with a grade of “B” or better.
More information regarding the course content is available in the Graduate Catalog.
Texas State Certificate of Completion
In order to receive your certificate, you must submit the graduation application (even though you are technically not "graduating") in the semester in which you plan to complete your certificate course requirements. If you are also in a degree program and wish to apply for both programs at once, you must select both at the time you submit the application. If you finish your certificate course requirements prior to your degree, you can apply for the certificate of completion before you finish the degree.
It is your responsibility to ensure completion of all certificate requirements as listed on the degree audit and required by the department. It is also your responsibility to apply for graduation by the published deadline posted on the University Academic Calendar and communicated via the GradBulletin and social media. Unfortunately, if you miss the application deadline, you will have to apply for graduation during the next semester. We encourage you to review this date, along with other key deadlines and graduation application submission instructions, on our Graduation page.
Certificate and degree programs are approved in accordance with guidelines provided by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas State University System.
