Program Overview
Are you currently pursuing a graduate degree at another institution but found a graduate course offered at Texas State that's not available at your primary institution? If so, you can enroll in graduate courses at Texas State with the approval of the dean of The Graduate College, the graduate advisor*, and your primary institution. The intent of this program is for you to earn degree credit at Texas State that will transfer back to your primary institution; therefore, credit earned as a visiting student may not be eligible for Texas State degree programs should you decide to pursue one at a later time.
*Some departments/programs do not admit visiting students, and others may admit after evaluating course availability.

Priority Deadline: Ensures full consideration for admission and eligibility for certain funding opportunities, including scholarships, fellowships, and assistantships, and guarantees that your application will be considered in the initial review.
Standard Deadline: Represents the last day a complete application can be submitted, but does not guarantee admission consideration. After the priority deadline, applications are reviewed on a rolling, space-available basis until the program is full, at which point, applications will close.

Approved English Proficiency Exam Scores
Applicants are required to submit an approved English proficiency exam score that meets the minimum program requirements below unless they have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or the equivalent from a country on our exempt countries list.
- official TOEFL iBT scores required with a 78 overall
- official PTE scores required with a 52 overall
- official IELTS (academic) scores required with a 6.5 overall and minimum individual module scores of 6.0
- official Duolingo Scores required with a 110 overall
- official TOEFL Essentials scores required with an 8.5 overall
This program does not offer admission if the scores above are not met.

Documents
- visiting student form requiring:
- approval to take the course from your primary institution, or the institution granting your degree
- approval from the graduate advisor or department chair in the program/department offering the course at Texas State
Return the Visiting Student Form signed by all appropriate parties for The Graduate College Dean to approve at least two weeks prior to registration. The form must be completed prior to enrollment each term you study as a visiting student.
Some departments/programs do not permit visiting students to take their courses, while others will evaluate course availability before approving visiting students.
