This past weekend, Running With the Grad Deans participated in the San Marcos Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k race, formerly known as Moe’s Better Half Marathon. Following Moe’s retirement from the race circuit last year, a group called ScallyWompus out of San Antonio took over the race. They did a very good job — but we all still missed Moe very much!

10k and 5k races, which were new additions to the event, had later start times than the half marathon. A benefit of this start-time planning was that most runners in the three races came in at roughly the same time. It was also fun to see runners from the other events on the course. Prior to the race, we had been a bit worried that the switch to daylight savings time the night before the race might lead to late arrivals, but we should not have worried as our runners proved to be a very dependable group! Everyone was there ahead of their race start time.

RWTGD was well-represented throughout the event with runners in every race: two in the half, five in the 10k, seven in the 5k, and one volunteer. We were extremely happy not only because we had some new runners in the group (who by the way did exceedingly well), but also because we had good representation from graduate students, faculty, and staff across campus. We even had an alumnus come back to run with us! All in all, 15 individuals ran, three of whom beat the dean, bringing the amount raised for scholarships to $775. Check out our photo gallery on our Running With the Grad Deans Facebook page!
