Purgatory Trail Run 2017

This past Saturday, Running with the Graduate Deans participated in our first race this year: The Purgatory Trail Run, which offered a 5k and a 10-mile loop. It was a perfect day for trail running, as the temperatures at the start were in the upper 50s with a slightly overcast sky. The trail served up a wide variety of terrain: smooth grassy areas, rocks and roots, ups and downs, straight and curvy areas…and most importantly, nature galore and no cars! For several of our runners it was their first trail run ever, for others the race represented a getting back into the game, while for yet others (including one unnamed runner of a deanly persuasion), trail running is their true passion. Fueled by a carb-loaded pasta lunch on Friday, everyone did exceedingly well on the course and had a lot of fun. At the race, we met several other runners from the Texas State community who were excited to learn that participating in Running with the Graduate Deans raises money for scholarships. This weekend’s race raised $185, so it's safe to say the year is off to a great start! Next up: Moe's Better Half Marathon!
