Pura Vida 5k 2019

Running with the Graduate Deans participated in the third annual Pura Vida 5k last Saturday, February 23. This is a fun run organized by Texas State University’s Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students, which benefits their study abroad trip to Costa Rica. Among the many runners, there were 33 who were wearing a Running with the Graduate Deans shirt – a new record!

The race took place on a lovely gravel path around Lake Pflugerville. While the sun was shining, the temperatures were lovely, and the terrain was flat, there were strong winds which added an extra challenge to the race. Although the trail formed a circle around the lake, it seemed as if we were always running into a head wind – which by the way was so strong that it caused waves and white caps on the lake! Even so, everyone (including several four-legged participants) had a great time.

As a bonus, the DPT students raised a total of $5,000 from race entry fees and business donations, while the Running with the Grad Deans participants raised an additional $1,450 for general graduate student conference travel funds. Well done, everyone! Our next race is the San Marcos Half Marathon, 10k and 5k on March 10! Whether you like to walk or run, we would love to have you join us – hope to see you there!
