Country Roads 10K 2017

Group of runners standing behind the Texas State Graduate College table

The 2017 Running with the Graduate Deans wellness program is off to a strong start — much like the runners who participated in the Country Roads 10K! This is the third year in a row that we have participated in this race organized for the San Marcos Running Club by Core Running Company, (which, by the way, offers us a 10% discount on merchandise!). We had excellent representation at the race with runners and volunteers from the departments/schools of Anthropology, Biology, Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education and School Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction, Geography, Journalism and Mass Communication, and, of course, The Graduate College as well as spouses and partners to cheer the group along. We also made new friends with current students and alumni of Texas State.

In inspirational news, the oldest runner to complete the course was 81 — and finished the race well under an hour, beating almost everyone in our group! Rest assured, our group is not about speed. The purpose of Running With the Graduate Deans is to contribute to overall health and wellness within the graduate community (and anyone who wants to join the fun!) all while raising funds for graduate scholarships. At this event, we raised $420.
